About the history:<\/p>\n

Historically, Merano<\/strong> has a lot to offer: from the glacier mummy “\u00d6tzi”<\/strong>, the Raetians<\/strong> and Romans<\/strong>, to the Bavarians, who<\/strong> settled the area coming from the north.<\/p>\n

Around 1100, Merano was still a small village, and it was only in the 12th century, under Meinhard<\/strong> II.<\/strong>, that Merano developed into a medieval city. He had arcades, walls, and city gates built, and numerous residences and castles emerged in the surrounding area. However, the heyday was short-lived… <\/p>\n

In the 19th century, even the Austrian Empress<\/strong> Sissi<\/strong> spent two winters in Merano in the 1870s. At that time, Merano experienced a renewed period of prosperity, but you will, of course, learn more about why and how in my city tour<\/strong>. <\/p>\n
