Affectionately known as “HOFA” by the locals, he is Tyrol’s freedom fighter par excellence. Whether he is heroized or not, one thing is clear: no visitor can avoid the Bergisel and Michael Zeno Diemer’s famous 1,000 m\u00b2 circular painting. Or maybe they can, if they enter the specially built rotunda (museum) with me and I give them an exciting introduction to this unique painting. The museum itself is an attraction, as it has been integrated incredibly harmoniously into the landscape. The cylinder containing the circular painting has been built into the ground and impresses with its brilliant architecture by the Innsbruck-based architectural firm Stoll.Wagner Architekten. <\/p>\n

Imagine that this unique painting was completed in less than three months in 1896 by Michael Zeno Diemer and his assistants, and today captivates visitors from all over the world.<\/p>\n

But it’s not just the giant circular painting that’s worth a visit\u2014the Kaiserj\u00e4germuseum, which is connected underground to the Museum Tirol Panorama, is also well worth a detour. Enjoy fantastic views over Innsbruck from the Urichhaus, which was built in 1893 and where Emperor Franz Josef once had lunch. We will also visit the Hofer Chapel, the statue of Emperor Franz Josef, and the statue of the last emperor, Karl, which will bring the tour of the historic Bergisel to a glorious conclusion. <\/p>\n
