✓ Going in the Wilder Kaiser region with its famous village square and the Bergdoktor inn, Sonnenapotheke pharmacy, village fountain, and beautiful Baroque village church dedicated to the Holy Cross.

What to expect:
What would the Wilder Kaiser be without the Bergdoktor? Well, still a beautiful limestone massif. But what would the Bergdoktor series be without the Wilder Kaiser?
You see, the beautiful landscape around the “Koaser,” as it is affectionately called by the locals, is simply unique. Time and again, my guests from near and far envy me for living where others go on vacation. And so, on the “Mountain Doctor Tour,” we visit the most famous filming locations from the successful television series.
Did you know that “Der Bergdoktor” is now being watched in Namibia, Croatia, Denmark, the USA, India, and China? Unbelievable, right?
Visit to the filming location at Going village square:
Location visit to the village square in Going am Wilden Kaiser, former village grocer’s shop:
From the bus parking lot in Going, right next to the fire station, we walk together through the beautiful village along the Goinger Bach stream to the beautiful church square, the heart of Going. Once there, there is a lot to tell about the houses around it. For example, the film inn “Wilder Kaiser” is the home of Johann Gschwendtner, an elderly landlord who only has one room left when filming takes place. Or the film pharmacy, which is actually the parish house in real life. Similarly, the house that houses the police station in the film is the municipal office in real life. The police sign there is labeled during filming, and then it’s time to roll and the clapperboard falls.
Join me on a tour of the high baroque church “Zum Heiligen Kreuz” (Holy Cross), one of the most beautiful high baroque churches in the Söllleukental valley. It houses a carved late Gothic statue of the Madonna and Child. The legend of St. Lawrence and the hidden beams make the church an art-historical highlight. Prepare to be amazed.
The bandstand and the story about the film graves round off the tour of Going’s church square.
Incidentally, only the exterior shots are filmed here; the interior shots are filmed at Föhrenhof, a renowned restaurant in the Auwald district of Ellmau. Here, too, there is the option of stopping for photos if desired.
Together we walk back to the bus parking lot, where there are public restrooms, before continuing on to Ellmau to visit the Bergdoktor’s practice.
Location visit in Ellmau
Location visit in Ellmau with the famous Bergdoktor practice at the farm “Hinterschnabl”:
There is a dedicated bus parking lot on Austraße, directly below the Bergdoktor practice, a 10-minute walk away. Unfortunately, coaches are not allowed to drive up there, but I can arrange a local taxi for guests with walking disabilities. Please contact me if you require this service.
Once you reach the top, in the district of Faistenbichl, you will find the picturesque Bergdoktor practice in front of you. From up here, you can enjoy a particularly good view of the Kaiser and the village of Ellmau. The Bergdoktor’s practice is housed in an old farmhouse, which was first mentioned in the Ellmau local chronicle in 1694. The “Hinterschnabel” farm is the childhood home of Hans Leitner, the long-standing mayor. The farm’s fields are still cultivated today.
Opening hours of the Bergdoktor practice: Every Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday, and Saturday from 9:30 a.m. to 12 p.m. (except during filming) open from March 7, 2025.
Interior tours here to book.
Location visit in Söll
Filming location visit in Söll high above on the Bromberg:
The “Köpfinghof,” as the Mayr family’s farm is called, is around 400 years old. It is important to note that farm names always remain the same, even if the family name changes. Even if the farm changes hands, it retains its original name. The farm has a typical Unterinntal farm layout, known as a “Ein- oder Einthof” (single or enclosed farm), where the residential building and the stable building are not separated from each other. The turret on the roof with the rooster and bell inside also has its significance. It is no coincidence that the expression “ringing the storm bell” came about, which farmers in days gone by used to warn each other when a storm was approaching. Or at midday, when the food was ready, to inform the farmhands and maids working in the fields.
Since the Bergdoktor’s house in the film is located at 1,000 meters above sea level, we will conquer the winding roads as a group together with the Bergdoktor’s tractor. Peda, the organizer and driver behind this magnificent idea, will drive this huge vehicle right up to the front door of the Mountain Doctor’s house. Once there, Peda will give us some unexpected insights into his many years of experience as a contributor to the film series. Why the breakfast terrace is in the shade in the morning when the film shows bright sunshine. What tips and tricks are used and what daily work on the film set looks like. How long it takes to shoot one minute of film and what the costs of a series amount to. You will hear all this and much more live.
After receiving all this information, you can view the interior of the house and enjoy a shot of schnapps. Cheers!
After you have had plenty of time to see everything, you will take the tractor back down to the bus parking lot at a leisurely pace.
