Pilgrimage Church Maria Rast
at Hainzenberg/Zillertal
Right at the start, I would like to introduce you to the Maria Rast pilgrimage church near Zell am Ziller in the beautiful Zillertal valley. This tour is perfect for a day trip to the Krimml Waterfalls or a visit to Mayerhofen, the Hintertux Glacier, or perhaps the Zillertal Adventure Dairy, including a guided tour and tasting.
Above Zell am Ziller, in the municipality of Hainzenberg in the former gold mining district, stands the Maria Rast church. It is located near the Gerlos Pass road, which leads from the Zillertal valley to the Pinzgau region. The history of this most visited place of worship in the Zillertal valley is also interesting, and you can hear it live during a guided tour with me. Let yourself be surprised—it will be informative, fun, and exciting!

Hospital Church of St. Nicholas
in the Weitau near St. Johann i. T.
The largest work of art in the church is the late Gothic stained glass window behind the high altar. It dates from around 1480. The ten panels of the tall, narrow window are arranged in pairs and depict, from top to bottom, Saints Afra and Magdalene, Barbara and Dorothea, Pope Sixtus/Bishop Ulrich and Sebastian, Andrew and Anna Selbdritt, Nicholas and Margaret. Latin inscriptions name the saints and ask for their intercession. The stained glass windows were restored in 1980.
The Gothic stained glass windows are well hidden, but together and with my help, we will discover them. These windows are an art-historical highlight and well worth a stop.

St. Nicholas Church
in Obernberg/Wipptal
Set against an impressive mountain backdrop and surrounded by larch and birch trees, the parish church of St. Nicholas, protector against the dangers of flooding and patron saint of the poor, stands on a moraine hill. This church is undoubtedly one of the most beautifully situated churches in North Tyrol and is a popular subject for photographers. It is also the well-known motif in the Christmas TV commercial for Merci.
It was built in the late Baroque style between 1760 and 1761. A chapel on the same site was first mentioned in documents dating back to 1339. The “landmark” of the municipality of Obernberg is definitely worth a visit, but it’s not just the church – the crystal-clear Obernberg Alpine Lake at the end of the valley and the Lichtsee lake high up on the mountain are also well worth a trip.
Moni’s tip: Almi’s Berghotel offers the perfect atmosphere for a rustic stopover with homemade Kaiserschmarrn. Known for its excellent Tyrolean cuisine—trust me, you’ll love it…
Kitzbühler Church Hill
Town church in Kitzbühel including town walk
From the Church of Our Lady to the Parish Church of St. Andrew to the Hospital and Monastery Church to the City Church of St. Catherine, anything is possible. The Kirchenacker, as the cemetery is affectionately known by the locals, is also home to some prominent guests. The stories of these inventive and inspiring people, many of whom were also born in Kitzbühel born, in an exciting way and manner. We naturally behave respectfully when walking through the cemetery grounds. Thank you!
Churches – and city history go hand in hand in Kitzbühel, is after all the wealth of the city of Kitzbühel closely with the mining industry linked. This, in turn, made it possible to finance the construction of numerous churches. More information on site during a guided tour with me. I look forward to meeting you and your group. 🙂
